Health Overview of Statutory Financial Reporting
This course introduces you to the NAIC Annual Statement and key statutory accounting concepts used in the HMO and Health Insurance industry. Course materials specifically explore the financial data interrelationships between the Statutory balance sheet, operating statements, exhibits, notes, and general interrogatories. This webinar also discusses the purpose, components, and impact of the Health Risk-Based Capital formula.
After completion, you will be able to:
- Identify the types of organizations filing the Health Annual Statement
- Identify the objectives of Statutory accounting and sources of Statutory guidance
- Identify key elements of the balance sheet and operating statements and their relationship to other parts of the Annual Statement
- Recognize the key components of the underwriting cycle (premiums, benefits, and expenses) in the income statement and the Underwriting and Investment Exhibits
- Define the purpose and identify the key components of the Health Risk-Based Capital formula and recognize the implications of RBC results

Prerequisites and Advance Preparation: Participants in the Investment Accounting and Reporting webinar who want an introduction to the HMO/Health industry and its Statutory accounting and reporting may find it helpful to attend this course. No advance preparation is required.
